Massacres and UN visits
A massacre of women and children in the Houla region of Syria last Friday has sparked widespread revulsion and condemnation from the international community.
The massacre has led to a further visit to Syria by UN Special Envoy Kofi Annan with an appeal for all Syrians to lay down their weapons.
Meanwhile some Arabic news agencies are reporting that a Saudi Arabian scholar and religious leader has placed a $450,000 reward for anyone who kills the Syrian president, Bashar Al-Assad.
More than 100 people were killed in their homes, many of whom were children, some as young as five years old.
