Massive anti-government demonstration today

Published

A massive anti-government demonstration has been planned today by the opposition Puea Thai Party, a supporter of exile ex prime minister, Thaksin Shinawatra.

The rally comes as a first year anniversary of demonstrations which turned violent, leading to 26 deaths and more than 800 wounded. Shinawatra is expected to address the crowd by video link this evening, although organisers say they expect the link to be disrupted by the authorities.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has promised to call a general election in early May.
