Mecca to get a metro

The Saudi Cabinet has approved the construction of a metro system for the Holy city of Mecca.

They system will have 113 miles of track and be built in three stages with the first completed in 2015 and the whole system up and running by 2022. The new system will consist of four metro lines with 88 stations and will be supported by a new bus network. The cost of the network is expected to cost $16.5 billion.

The Government website has also confirmed that the Kingdom will also implement 15 power projects worth 8.8 billion dollars to include a power village plant costing $2 billion.
