Million protesters in Egypt

Published

Up to a million people came on to the streets in Egypt today (Tuesday 1st Febrary 2011) seeking to remove President Mubarak.

The protests which have continued for seven days show no sign of abating and as many as 200,000 people are said to have gathered in the main square in Cairo.

Late reports suggest that the President is planning to make a statement tonight saying that he will stand down later in the year to allow democratic elections. It is questionable as to whether this will be enough for the demonstraters who want him out immediately.
