Published

The Monsoon session of parliament ended today with no further business being conducted and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies continuing to disrupt proceedings over the Coalgate affair (see earlier articles).

The session which started on 8th August managed to pass just three of 31 listed bills put forward for the session. A total of thirteen days business was disrupted by the Coalgate affair and the BJP has pledged to continue to disrupt government work until the prime minister resigns.

According to News Track India, BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad has said that “We had said very clearly that we are willing for any discussion immediately, if the government shows its bona fide by cancelling 142 coal blocks and also ordering a fair probe without impinging upon our demand for the resignation of the Prime Minister”.
