More ministers resign over Telangana

Published

Yesterday we reported that Tourism Minister K Chiranjeevi had resigned over the decision to establish a new state of India in Telangana by splitting Andhra Pradesh.

Today more ministers have decided to resign over the issue; these include Minister of Human Resources Development, Pallam Raju; Minister of State for Railways, Kotla Surya Prakasha Reddy and Minister of Textiles, Kavuru Samba Siva Rao.

Other ministers who are believed to have resigned include Minister of State for Commerce, D Purandeswari and Minister of State for IT and Communications, Killi Kruparani.

A number of Congress members of parliament are believed to have resigned the whip in protest at the establishment of the new state.

At this stage it is difficult to gauge the scale of the rebellion but further resignations, especially if those concerned resign their seats, could precipitate a no confidence motion in the Lok Sabha.
