More protests and more deaths

Across Syria the protests continued this weekend with the city of Hama being the focal point for the armed forces. More than 45 people died in the city with others killed in protests across Syria.

Around 1,500 civilians and 360 members of the security forces have been killed so far. An estimated 12,000 people have been arrested. For the first time this weekend local media were reporting the defection of members of the armed forces to the side of the protesters.

Ramadan should start sometime today (1st August) and will go on for one month, and the protesters have promised that this will be a time of increased activity.
