Mubarak summoned as tensions rise

Published

Ex president Hosni Mubarak has been summoned by the Public Prosecutor to answer charges of killing protesters and embezzlement of public funds. His sons Gamal and Alaa have also been summoned.

In another move ex prime minister Ahmed Nazil has been detained pending investigations.

This all seemed like scant comfort to the many thousands of protesters who were out on Tahrir Square again over the weekend. As inflation rose to 11.5% in the 12 months to March it is becoming clear that the army is finding itself under the spotlight resulting in a hardening of their position. They used tear gas and rubber bullets at one point over the weekend which led to one death and a number of injuries.
