New electoral law revealed

Published

The first details of a new electoral law for Jordan were revealed yesterday with a lot more detail still to come.

The legislation, has been agreed by the National Dialogue Committee but has still to be presented to the government. It includes the ending of the one person, one vote electoral system and a new form of proportional representation at the national level.

Most opposition representatives speaking in the media described the proposals as ‘underwhelming’, ‘disappointing’ and falling short of the widespread expectations of a complete overhaul of the political system.
