Three of the four largest parties in the new 217 member Constituent Assembly have announced that they will enter into a coalition as the new assembly meets today.

Ennahda with 89 seats, the Congress for the Republic (CPR) with 29 seats and the Democratic Forum for Labour and Liberties (Ettakatol) with 20 seats will form the new government.

The three parties have agreed to appoint an interim president, Moncef Marzouki from the Congress for the Republic (CPR). The prime minister will be Hamadi Jebali of Ennahda and the Speaker will be Mustapha Ben Jaafar of Ettakatol.

Further announcements on the balance of the government are likely after today’s inaugural session.
