New port for Cabinda province

President José Eduardo do Santos has laid the foundation stone for a new deep water port to be located in Caio in the northern province of Cabinda.

The port is being built under a public-private partnership (PPP) agreement and will be completed in three phases. Phase one will see the completion of a 775 metre quay and by completion there will be a 1,550 metre quay according to the report in the AgĂȘncia AngolaPress.

There will be a storage area of 1,640 hectares and container cargo area covering 3,690 hectares when the port is completed.

The port is part of a wider infrastructure plan to bring development to the region and is expected to provide around 1,500 jobs when completed.
