Parliament confirms cabinet and PM

Published

The Moldovan Parliament approved today the Cabinet of Ministers and Liberal Democrat Leader Vladimir Filat as Prime Minister.

An alliance of the Liberal Democrat Party (PLD), Democratic Party (PD) and Liberal party (PL) took power following the general election of 28th November 2010.

Although the Party of Communists of Moldova (PCRM) are the largest party in Parliament with 42 seats, the PLD with 32 seats has formed the alliance with the PD, 15 seats and PL 12 seats.  This gives the alliance 59 of the 101 seats in the parliament.

The one remaining problem is agreement over the President.  A parliamentary vote of 61 is needed for this appointment.  The acting president and parliamentary speaker Marian Lupu is expected to stand for this position.
