Parliament gives nuclear go ahead


The Bangladesh Parliament has passed a bill which will allow for the building of the first nuclear power plant in the country.

If approval goes ahead then the plan is to build a plant that will generate 2,000 MW of electricity with construction starting in 2013.

The government hopes to produce 20 GW of electricity by 2021 with current generation standing at 5 GW and demand at 6.5 GW.
