President appoints new heads of the armed forces

President Mohamed Mursi has continued his shake-up of the armed forces by appointing new commanders of each of the air defence, navy and air force.

Major General Abdel Mounim Ibrahim Bayyoumi el-Tarras was named commander of the Air Defence Forces, Rear Admiral Osama Ahmed Ahmed el-Gendy commander of naval force and Air Vice-Marshal Younes El-Sayed Hamed was made commander of the Air Force.

The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces said that the moves were the normal promotions and retirements as a new generation of officers were appointed.
