President dismisses military chiefs

President Abdrabuh Mansur Hadi has dismissed two of his armed forces chiefs in what is clearly the start of his attempt to rein in the military with its close association to former president Ali Abdullah Saleh.

The two men are General Mohammed Saleh al-Ahmar, the air force chief and half-brother of the former president and General Tarek Mohamed Abdallah Saleh, the head of the presidential guard and a nephew of the former president.

General Mohammed Saleh al-Ahmar is reportedly refusing to leave until other chiefs are also dismissed including the defence minister.
