Protests against Thaksin

Published

Ultra-royalist, anti-Thaksin “Yellow Shirts” have, for a second day, surrounded the Thai parliament in protest at a reconciliation bill which they believe will open the door for the return to the country of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

In parliament itself the Speaker of the House had to be protected by police as opposition legislators threw papers at him as he announced that the debate would continue on Friday.

Previous demonstrations involving the ‘Yellow Shirts’ and pro-Thaksin ‘Red Shirts’ have led to widespread disruption in the country and violent scenes between police and protesters.
