Protests reach Damascus

Published

For the first time there were anti-government protests in Damascus at the University yesterday. The Universities, which are normally heavily controlled by the ruling Baath Party, have not featured in the protests so far.

In Banias, a coastal city which saw mass protests over the weekend, electricity has been cut and the city has been sealed off.

The government says that the protests have been organised by foreigners to sow sectarian strife.
