President Vladimir Putin has seen his popularity fall dramatically in the last few months according to a poll by the Levada Centre published in the Moscow Times.

The latest poll, conducted in mid-August, says that those with a positive opinion of the president have dropped from 60% in May to 48% this month. His approval rating has dropped from 57% in May to 52% in August and down from 77% in May 2008, the height of his popularity.

Respondents suggest that President Putin is losing his touch, with 53% saying he has a ‘very strong’ or ‘strong’ influence on events, down from 66% in May. Meanwhile, 56% of Russians said that they were ‘tired of waiting’ for positive change from the president.
