Saleh agrees to sign GCC deal for fourth time
President Ali Abdullah Saleh has agreed to sign the GCC deal, the fourth time he has promised to do so this year, provided that he receives unspecified guarantees from the Gulf States, European Union and America.
The comments were made in a broadcasted meeting with party leaders in the capital Sana’a yesterday. It seems that the president is concerned about his party and government members once he has gone and does not want to see the party dismantled or banned as has happened in Tunisia and Egypt.
The timing of the announcement comes just as the UN Security council is due to debate a resolution urging a resolution based upon the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) initiative.
