Saleh fails to sign GCC deal again

Published

President Ali Abdullah Saleh refused to sign the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) deal on Sunday as expected. Although diplomats and government figures were present and despite members of his government signing the deal, the president said he wanted the opposition to be present.

Opposition members had signed the agreement on Saturday night. The GCC issued a statement on Sunday night saying that it had suspended any further initiatives because of the failure to get agreement.

Tens of thousands of protesters continued to march in the capital Sanaa calling for the immediate removal of the president.
