Saleh warning on civil war

Published

President Ali Abdullah Saleh, who earlier today announced his willingness to step down by the end of the year, has warned that any attempt to force him from power would lead to civil war.

The announcements come after increasing numbers of key military commanders, including Brig. Gen. Ali Mohsen al-Ahmarh have defected to the opposition anti-government protests.

Many other senior officials and diplomats have resigned since Friday (18th March 2011) when security forces shot and killed 52 anti government demonstrators.

President Ali Abdullah Saleh has leaked considerable support in recent days and is unlikely to be able to sustain his position much longer.
