Search continues for Interior Minister and two pilots

Published

Philippine rescuers are still searching for the Secretary of the Interior and Local Government, Jesse Robredo and two pilots after his small aeroplane crashed into the sea off the Philippines two days ago.

There was one survivor from the crash who was pulled out of the water soon after the plane went down but only wreckage has been recovered since then. The plane went down about a kilometer off the coast but in deep water which will make finding the wreckage all the more difficult.

The pilots had reported an engine failure soon after take-off but appear to have decided to continue their flight and no further reports were received from them before the plane plunged into the sea.

The government has stated that it won’t give up the search and Mr. Robredo’s close friend and ally President Benigno Aquino is on the scene. The chances of finding survivors after such a long time are now very slim.
