Serbia Kosovo find way to move forward

Published

Serbia and Kosovo have found a way to move forward following months of discussions in Brussels under European Union led negotiations.

The move allows for Kosovo to be represented in Western Balkan meetings without objection from the Serbians. The deal allows for Kosovo to appear under the heading “Kosovo” with an asterisk then giving an explanation as to the international rulings over its disputed status.

Kosovo declared independence from Serbia in 2008. Serbia has never recognised the declaration along with many other countries. Nevertheless, without this agreement Serbia would not have been able to continue with its candidate status into the European Union.

President Boris Tadic welcomed the agreement and said that it would now clear the way for Serbia to join the European Union.
