Sets up committee to speak to protesters
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has established a team of professionals headed by economist Manuel Trajtenberg to talk to protesters following this weekend’s demonstrations.
Saturday saw the largest of three weekly demonstrations held so far with more than 300,000 people attending. The protests are over a number of issues from housing through to farmers demands. The consultative team, dubbed the Trajtenberg Committee will report to a 16 strong government socioeconomic committee headed by the finance minister, Yuval Steinitz.
Trajtenberg heads the Planning and Budgeting Committee of the Council for Higher Education in Israel and was previously head of the National Economic Council and chief economic adviser to the prime minister.
