South Sudan to join Nile Basin Initiative

According to a report in the Sudan Tribune Minister of Information, Michael Makuei Lueth, has announced that the South Sudan Cabinet has agreed to the country becoming the ninth member of the Nile Basin Initiative.

The newspaper reports the Minister as saying “It is important to join the Nile Basin Initiative because it will help the country benefit from assistance that are given to support projects aimed at improving lives and living standard of people depending on water from the Nile. There are projects funded by the Initiative”.

The current eight members of the project are Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.
