Sports minister resigns

Published

The man responsible for planning for the 2014 football World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympics, Orlando Silva, has handed in his resignation to President Dilma Rousseff.

The minister has left amid allegations of misappropriation of public funds. He is the fifth minister to go following such accusations in the purge that was started by the president earlier this year. Mr Silva denies the allegations and has said that he has resigned to clear his name.
