Malawi

Still no government

Published

President Bingu wa Mutharika dissolved his 42 strong Cabinet on 14th August. Since then he has taken sole control of all ministries with no sign of any new appointment being made.

Political analysts are saying that the government has come to a complete standstill and a number of NGOs are calling upon the president to appoint a ‘leaner’ Cabinet quickly with around 16 ministers being needed.

But the president appears to have lost trust in his party and MPs and has even fallen out with Vice-President Joyce Banda to whom he refuses to assign any responsibilities. At the moment the president appears to be listening to no-one and the country appears to be at a standstill politically and economically.
