Taiwan ends diplomatic ties with The Gambia

Published

President Ma Ying-jeou has decided that the Republic of China (Taiwan) will sever all diplomatic relations with the Gambia.

The decision came after President Yahya Jammeh announced on Friday that his country was ending diplomatic relations with Taiwan. Despite a high level delegation being sent to The Gambia to discuss issues, they were not seen by the president and were told that in The Gambia all matters are decided by the president.

Vice Foreign Affairs Minister Joseph Shih announced at a news conference this morning that the Republic of China (Taiwan) Embassy in Banjul will be shut down and all bilateral cooperative programs will be terminated.
