Ten day State of Emergency declared

Following a terrorist attack by Islamist fundamentalists on the Radisson Blu hotel in central Bamako President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita has announced three days of mourning and has declared a ten day State of Emergency.

In the attack on the hotel, which attracts many foreigners including United Nations officials and foreign airlines aircrew, at least 20 people are known to have been killed including the two attackers. More than 130 hostages were freed unharmed after Malian special forces stormed the hotel.

Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb and its affiliate al-Murabitoun has said that they carried out the attack.
