Thousands rally in Tahrir Square

Published

Tens of thousands of Egyptians marched into Tahrir Square yesterday (Friday 1st April 2011) to protest against what they described as the military backtracking on promises made.

In particular the protesters wanted the prosecution of Mubarak’s former chief of staff, Zakaria Azmi and the former speakers of the two chambers of parliament, Safwat al-Sherif and Fathi Sorour.

They also demanded that Mubarak’s many international financial assets be frozen and the removal of the former president’s supporters from senior positions in the broadcast media and universities.
