Threatens West on further sanctions

Published

Three press releases issued in the past two days from the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) demonstrate the Iranian governments position with regard to The Gulf, their military capability and the threat of further sanctions. The first part of each release is published as released:

Release One – Velayat-90 exercises prove Iran’s high defense capability: Defense minister

Minister of Defense and Logistics of the Armed Forces Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said on Tuesday that Velayat-90 military exercises proved high capability of the armed forces to defend the country.

He said that the capabilities of various military hardware manufactured by the Defense Ministry were tested during the exercises citing test-firing of Qader, Nasr and Nour surface-to-surface, surface-to-air, and air-to-surface missiles and advanced defense systems.

He said that the armed forces also tested advanced electronic and optic communications systems successfully.

The defense minister said that display of Iran’s defense power indicated the failure of sanctions imposed on the country.

Release Two – MP: World economy closely tied with Persian Gulf

Head of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission said that world economy is closely tied with sensitive region of Persian Gulf.

He added that Iran hopes that the west does not make a strategic mistake in imposing sanctions against Iran.

Alaeddin Boroujerdi, who was here with a number of members of the commission to attend parade of military forces participating in the Velayat 90 exercise, told IRNA that there are some whispers about sanctions against Iran oil, but the west should know that if the region is not a safe place for Iran oil export, it won’t certainly be safe for others, too.

Release Three – World powers bewildered by Iran’s defense progress: Army official

Armed Forces Chief of Staff Major General Hassan Firouzabadi said the world bullying powers were bewildered by Iran’s defense progress.

Talking to IRNA after the conclusion of “Velayat-90” war games, he said the West was after imposing a culture on the world according to which only the hegemonic powers get a full mark while the majority of the world countries fall below the line.

He said now they are astonished to see that Iran is getting scores much higher than what they expect it so they are unable to understand the degree and depth of Iran’s scientific and technological achievements.
