Three ministers sacked

Published

President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad removed three ministers from their posts yesterday.

The three include Oil Minister, Masoud Mir-Kazemi; Welfare and Social Security Minister, Sadeq Mahsouli and Industries and Mines Minister Ali Akbar Mehrabian.

The official reason given was the need to merge eight ministries in to four to meet the requirements of Article 53 of Iran’s Five Year Development Plan (2010 – 2015) which seeks to reduce the total number of ministries from 21 to 17. There is, however, a deeper internal power struggle developing.
