UN confirms war crimes committed

Published

A United Nations report has confirmed that war crimes were committed by both sides in the final days of the war against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in 2009.

The report says that artillery was used against civilians in a no fire zone, there is at least one video image of executions of prisoners and accusations of rape and other sexual crimes committed in camps housing refugees after the war was over.

The Sri Lankan government has condemned the report saying that the accusations are ‘baseless’.
