Yingluck 28th PM and 1st woman PM

Yingluck Shinawatra has been elected as the 28th Prime Minister of Thailand and their first woman prime minister in a vote in the House of Representatives today.

The vote which took place around 10 a.m. local time saw the leader of the Pheu Thai Party (PTP) take 296 votes of the 497 MPs who attended. There were 197 abstentions and three Democrats voted against her. The opposition did not put up a candidate.

She remains Prime Minister elect until she receives royal assent.
