Published

The new prime minister, Yoshihiko Noda, and his government, appear to have started well with their messages of party unity and a conciliatory approach towards the opposition. In a Nikkei Business Daily poll they are recorded as having 67% support from the public, in the Daily Yomiuri poll they receive 65%, in the Mainichi Daily News they are on 56% and in the Asahi Shimbun they are on 53%.

The previous government of Naoto Kan was managing to get around 20% support.
