Sarkozy narrows the gap

Incumbent president, Nicolas Sarkozy has narrowed the gap on his main opponent. Socialist candidate François Hollande.

In the latest opinion poll by TNS-Sofres published on 27th February, Sarkozy has moved up to 28% in a first round battle whilst Hollande remains on 30%.

The same opinion poll shows little movement if the contest goes to a second round between the two men. Hollande remains on 57% and Sarkozy on 43%.

The poll comes two weeks after Nicolas Sarkozy announced his candidacy for the election which will take place on 22nd April.

Meanwhile, François Hollande has announced that he intends to introduce a 75% tax rate on anyone earning more than €1 million per annum.
