The Joint Meeting Parties (JMP), a coalition of five opposition parties has said that it will set up an umbrella National Council on 18th August.

Meanwhile, President Ali Abdullah Saleh has appeared on television, broadcast from Saudi Arabia saying that he will sign the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) agreement but only if two of the tribal leaders leave the country. He has vowed to return to Yemen soon.

On Tuesday 4,000 tribal representatives from around Yemen convened in the capital Sana’a to try and find a ‘stabilization solution’ to the current problems.

All of this activity is taking place with the backdrop of battles between Al Qaeda and government troops across the country.
