Million demand Saleh ouster

Published

More than a million protesters gathered in every province of Yemen today demanding the ousting of President Ali Abdullah Saleh. Smaller, but significant pro-Saleh protests also took place, but mainly in the capital Sana’a.

Meanwhile a delegation of members from the ruling party, the General People’s Congress (GPC), were sent by the party’s General Committee to Riyadh to brief President Saleh. The party was given the task of calling on the president to authorise his vice president, Abdu Rabu Mansor Hadi, to undertake negotiations with the opposition to ensure an orderly and smooth transfer of powers.

The opposition said that there would be no discussions until Saleh had gone.
