More mass protests

Published

More mass protests were held across Israel yesterday. Around 300,000 gathered in Tel Aviv with another estimated 100,000 gathering in Jerusalem, Haifa and some smaller cities.

The protesters were complaining about the high cost of living inadequate housing and the high cost of renting properties. Largely drawn from the middle classes and youth but representing all sections of society the protests were said to be peaceful and to have a carnival like atmosphere.

Later this month a government appointed committee to study the socioeconomic changes needed to address the protesters demands which started in July will publish its findings. It is expected that there will be further protests in the wake of the report.
