Published

Spokesperson for the joint Meeting Parties (JMP), Muhammad Qahtan, chaired a meeting of the newly assembled National Assembly of the Yemeni Revolution Forces yesterday in the Hall of Sharia and Law Faculty on the Sana’a University Campus.

The 1000 strong body comprising representatives from the various youth movements, JMP, Southern Movement, opposition abroad, NGOs, clerics and academics agreed to elect a 143 person National Council including at least 11 women. The National Council, in turn, will elect a chairman and 20 member Executive Board.

The aim of the National Council is to ‘finish the revolution’.

The News Yemen site reports the Head of Media for the ruling General People’s Congress, Tareq al-Shami as saying that “In forming this Council, the opposition would sign the death certificate of the Gulf proposal”.
