Paraguay

Referendum today

Published

A referendum will be held today to decide if expats will be allowed to have a vote in Paraguayan elections. Around 3 million voters will decide if about 1.5 million expats will have the vote.

The referendum has not raised much interest in the country with Congress seemingly unlikely to take too much time over passing the necessary legislation even if a yes vote is recorded.

Although voting is compulsory, election commission officials have announced that there will be no penalties for those who don’t vote – so don’t expect a rush to the polls!
