South Sudan chooses to secede from the North


Figures released today (30th January 2011) by the South Sudan Referendum Bureau say that 99.57% of those who voted have chosen to secede from Sudan and form a new state.

Turnout was 99% with 3,851,994 votes cast. 16,129 people voted for the country to remain united.
