Afghan parliament sacks five ministers

Published

The Afghan Parliament has dismissed five ministers over the weekend leaving just the Finance Minister Eklil Hakimi unscathed. Parliament was, apparently, unsatisfied with the briefings given by the ministers concerning their ministries expenditure and development budgets.

Speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi has asked President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani to nominate replacements. Eleven more ministers still have to go through the parliamentary process.

The ministers dismissed are:

Mahmoud Baligh; Minister of Public Works

Nasreen Owryakhel; Minister of Labour, Social Affairs, Martyrs & Disabled

Salahuddin Rabbani; Minister of Foreign Affairs

Assadullah Hanif Balkhi; Minister of Education

Muhamadullah Batash; Minister of Transportation and Education
