Agriculture Minister resigns in corruption probe

Egypt’s Agriculture Minister, Salah El Din Mahmoud Helal, has resigned his portfolio after he was arrested on suspicion of corruption. The Prime Minister’s office confirmed that the resignation has been accepted.

Officials at the ministry are accused of taking bribes to help businessmen illegally acquire state land. The Middle East News Agency (MENA) reports a spokesman as saying “He [the minister] was arrested as part of an investigation into a major case of corruption in his ministry,”
