Ali Zidan names his Cabinet


Prime Minister Dr Ali Zidan presented his proposed new government to the General National Congress yesterday. The prime minister has selected 27 ministers, who he says cover all of Libya without favour to any region and which contain members of the two largest parties in the parliament, the National Forces Alliance and Justice and Construction Party. The prime minister has chosen a number of independent candidates for key posts and his proposed Cabinet includes two women.

Voting for the new Cabinet was obstructed by an invasion of the parliament by around 100 protesters who were said to be unhappy with the names of some of the nominations.

Unlike the nominations for the previous prime minister, Mustafa Abushagur, who was dismissed in a vote of no confidence and his Cabinet rejected, this vote will take all Cabinet posts in one vote.
