Ard van der Steur is new Justice Minister

Ard van der Steur (45) has been sworn in as the new Minister of Justice and Security. Klaas Dijkhoff, (34) will be the new Deputy Minister. Both men are from the ruling People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD).

Van der Steur graduated from Leiden University with a law degree, becoming a partner at Benelux law firm NautaDutilh. He served as a councillor in Warmond from 2002 to 2006, and then in Teylingen from 2006 until he became a MP in 2010.

“In 1969 I was born in Haarlem seventh generation in a family of tailors. After high school I studied law at Leiden. In 1995 I became a lawyer in Rotterdam. From 2006 to 2010 I worked as a lecturer at the University of Leiden. I am also an entrepreneur since 2006 and since 2009 again lawyer and founder of an innovative network of specialized lawyers.

From 2002 to June 2010 I was leader of the VVD in Warmond and then in Teylingen. Besides my Chamber Membership I am socially active, such as an honorary board member of a number of foundations.”
