Armando Monteiro named Trade Minister

Armando Monteiro has been named as President Dima Rousseff’s new Minister of Development, Industry and Trade.

Armando de Queiroz Monteiro Neto (62) graduated in Business Administration from the Getúlio Vargas Foundation in 1973 and in 1988 he graduated in Law at the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE). He is a member of the Brazilian Labour Party (PTB) and has been involved in politics since 1990. He has been Senator for Pernambuco since 1999.

Mr Monteiro was President of the Federation of Industries of the State of Pernambuco (FIEPE) from 1992 to 2004. In October 2002 he was made President of the National Confederation of Industry (CNI), a post he held until 2010.
