Botswana has a new Vice President

Parliament has endorsed President Khama’s nominee for Vice President, Minister of Mineral’s Energy and Water Resources, Ponatshego Kedikilwe.

Mr Kedikilwe replaces Lt Gen. Mompati Merafhe who retired on July 31. The Botswana Dailt News reports that Mr Kedikilwe has been Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources since January 2007.

Mr Kedikilwe started his career as a civil servant and worked in a number of ministries. In 1998 he became Finance Minister and in 1999 he was made Education Minister. The new Vice-President has an Honorary Doctor of Law from the University of Botswana.

No replacement has been announced for the Vice President’s previous ministerial position.
