Corina Şuteu named Minister of Culture

Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos has appointed Corina Şuteu as Romania’s new Minister of Culture. She replaces Vlad Alexandrescu after he resigned over internal quarrels which got out of hand at the Bucharest Opera.

Corina Şuteu has been a state secretary in the Ministry of Culture since January 2016. A graduate from the Faculty of Letters at the University of Bucharest in English Studies, she also has an MSc in Cultural Management from the University of Dijon (France). She was previously a teacher at the Agro-Industrial Secondary School of Fagaras (1983 – 1987), director of the European Cultural Management Master’s programme in Dijon (1995 – 2001), President of the Forum of European Cultural Networks from 1995 to 2002 and manager of the Romanian Cultural Center in New York between 2006 and 2012. Şuteu was a founder of the Romanian Film Initiative in 2012.
