Culture Minister goes

Published

Minister of Culture, Andrea Zlatar-Violić, has tendered her resignation after accepting responsibility for irregularities that occurred in the ministry’s accounting system.

The State Audit Office unearthed unofficial use of credit cards in 2013, although by the time of the report in 2014 all funds had been repaid. “As Culture Minister I accept responsibility for irregularities in accounting operations and apologise for inadequate control and noncompliance with financial regulations. Even though all debts were paid, I believe that my resignation is a logical consequence of my responsibility for irregularities in financial operations. Therefore I hereby tender my resignation from the post of Culture Minister.”

Andrea Zlatar-Violić comes from one of the smaller coalition partners, the Croatian People’s Party – Liberal Democrats (HNS) and a spokesman indicated yesterday that Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic will consult with other coalition parties before making a replacement.
